My name is Calvin Vruggink. (vroo-jink)
I don’t remember a time in my life when I wasn’t interested in cameras and the people behind them. At the age of 12 I knew I wanted to be one of them. One night while watching Bob Barker’s ‘Truth or Consequences’, Bob asked the camera guy to explain what he does as a cameraman, his explanation was all I needed.
I have had an extremely enjoyable and successful career as a camera/lighting guy in corporate video production. As the needs and purposes of creating video images changed so did my interests.
My continued love for working with light, shapes and textures led me to creating and shooting macro tabletop images. I especially enjoy the intricate and sometime tedious moments of getting it correct.
Shortly after shooting my first couple of images I realized for the first time in my career I didn’t have a producer, a director or a client saying “it is good enough, clock’s ticking.”
I love the light! It describes everything in our lives. It allows us to see and create the shapes, colors, and textures that make our lives a beautiful thing.
Why stop to see the light?
Sometimes our lives are moving so fast we forget to notice the little things our senses allow us to enjoy. I am asking people to slow down, take a few breathes and define their like or dislike in their own words. If I can create a place where people stop, look and say ‘HHMM interesting.’ I’ll be a happy guy.
Please take a few moments to tour the site. If you see something you like, or don’t like, please stop and find the words, which explain your feelings. I am not asking anyone to share their thoughts, I am asking you to - stop to see the light.
